The building is put up by reinforced concrete and covered with bricks in light colors. Due to the lesson from the Great Kantō earthquake, the Japanese no longer held high praises for reinforced brick buildings. At that point, Modern Eclectic Style was prevailing in Europe, and the Japanese were fairly open at new ideas. Therefore, public buildings in Taiwan became their subjects to try on the new style. The Japanese Romanticism was incorporated into some of the buildings then, which turned out flatter in appearances with decorations a lot simpler than those of previous styles. Moreover, “Wash Pebbles” and “Cut Pebbles” were still widely used in buildings of the time.

Buildings

Buildings put up in Japanese Colonial Period: The Collection Room (Old Machine Room), Transmitter Room 1422 (Old Generator Room), Reservoir, Old Filter Bed, Pumps, and Old Cable Collectors etc. All have existed for a long time. Notice the sewerage system was very well developed then.

1.The old Generator Room (Transmitter Room 1422)

Transmitter Room 1422 used to be the room where the generators were placed. The porch sticking out today was yet to be there and the room only housed generators and other equipment relevant. The Old Generator Room is built out of reinforced concrete and on the inside are many squares of different heights designed for various purposes.

2.Collection Room (Old Machine Room)

Minsyong Branch is a reinforced concrete building of two stories high, which shapes in T and faces to the South. As it was built in wartime, it has strong and sturdy structure, being one of the few reinforced concrete buildings at Minsyong then. The architect, Ryoichi Suzuoki(鈴置良一) followed the prevailing fashion by adopting straight lines to separate each floor, presenting a view of both liveliness and simplicity. The terrace of second floor is surrounded by parapet, with many balconies created via the technique of cantilever, which adds a modern streak to the building. In addition, many important parts of the building adopt the design of circular column and arched window, ensuring that it wouldn’t appear in monotony and dullness.
