Vacuum tube
In
1906, Lee De Forest invented Triodes, which are
considered the soul of a transmitter as it
amplifies audio signals into high frequent radio
waves. Radio Taiwan owns an assorted of mega-
vacuum tubes (signal amplifier) that can’t be
found elsewhere in Taiwan. Generally, a vacuum
tube has a life as long as 4000 to 5000 hours,
but given the careful maintenance by the Radio’s
engineer, the time span can go as far as 20000
hours. |

The 600kW medium wave
transmitter, also a mega-vacuum tube
that can be cooled by both water and
air, is used to amplify final power.
It’s owned by Fangliao Branch. |
In 1989, as the
Communist Bloc of East Europe collapsed,
a lot of countries turned to highlight
on Chinese programs and put in extra
electricity in the supply. The vacuum
tube type 4CV250000B, cooled by both
water and air, is equipped on a
transmitter and amplifies the final
power. |

The medium wave
transmitter, also a mega-vacuum tube
that is cooled by both water and air, is
used to amplify final power. It’s built
by Thomson Corp. and owned by Huwei
Branch. Notice the water pipe attached
is removable. |
Built in 1952, model type ML-5682. With
the assistance from the U.S., staff of
Radio Taiwan gave all-out efforts to
modify the Japanese-made final power
amplifier by increasing its maximum
transmission power from 100kW to 150kW.
Hence, the purpose of broadcasting to
Middle China was achieved without having
to fork out a great deal of money to
purchase another machine. |

Vacuum tube(ML-356) |
|
|
Type WL857B, a glass sealed vacuum tube
to be cooled by air, was mostly used as
a diode in a transmitter. Nowadays
diodes are mostly replaced with kenotron,
a kind of semi-conductor, in order to
have better rectification. |
During the Sino-Japanese War, Standard
Company of Britain assembled a 50kW
transmitter in China, which was
dismantled and transported to Minsyong
before it was put into use. Then, it was
put up together and broadcast on 1422
kHz. The Tube, type ML-356, can amplify
final power and be cooled by water or
air. |
